Our Story

It all began in 2013, when Appalshop convened local artists to gather input on a project. After just a few meetings, we realized we were stronger together and EpiCentre was formed as a collective for sharing ideas, projects, and opportunities.

Over the years, EpiCentre has received support from various organizations including The Letcher County Culture Hub, The Rauschenberg Foundation, The Kentucky Foundation for Women, and The Kentucky Arts Council. We’ve also collaborated with Appalshop for Our Town Grants provided by The National Endowment for the Arts.

In late 2019 we formed a board of directors and began renting a property to be used as a gallery space. Then COVID happened. We have since been slowly but surely working toward rejuvenating the space to be a suitable art gallery.

EpiCentre officially became a non-profit organization in 2021, which has opened doors to new opportunities.

Our objectives moving forward include:

  • planning and executing a yearly calendar of events and exhibits

  • promoting the arts and artists of the EpiCentre group

  • recommending policy for the use of the gallery space

  • encouraging the cultural and educational endeavors of creative persons in the region

We hope you will join us on our journey!
